Author: Baronius Description: supports mod translations and
TRA file management Current version: 1.1
Status: RELEASED
About TREP
This program allows you to manage and translate TRA files
efficiently by offering a user-friendly graphical interface
with several services. The most important features are listed
below.
You can view
the original (source) text while translating it in TREP's
Translator Mode. It also offers automated services
to find differences between two files, and sychronize a
possibly outdated translation with its source file counterpart.
You can create new TRA files or edit existing ones in
the Editor Mode of TREP. You can add and insert
new entries, delete existing ones, sort all entries or give
a new index to them.
You can search entries for text or associated sound, and
can replace text (all of its occurances if needed) with
a single click.
A wide variety of options is available to customize TREP's
behaviour and appearance to meet your expectations.
TREP's text resources are stored in a usual TRA file, so
the program can easily be translated to other languages.
Please check the Languages section for
more information.
TREP supports its own module format, TAD. These custom
modules support the work of users (modders, translators,
proofreaders etc.) with advice and information. They can
be created in TREP Module Editor. Please check the section
Advisor Modules for more information.
Installation and uninstallation
Run trep-setup.exe (download it here).
The installation wizard will guide you through the installation
process.
You can remove TREP from your computer as
any other software, using the option "Add or Remove Programs..."
in Control Panel.
Advisor Modules
When translating a mod to other languages,
there might be common words, expressions or structures that
should be translated in a similar way. When more than one
person is working on a project, it's a good idea to harmonize
the work and determine how certain expressions and structures
are handled. This can be different for each language, for
each mod and for each team. It might be useful to remind the
translator when the currently selected entry contains critical
text that should be translated according to pre-defined rules.
TREP offers to run user-made modules. When
an entry is selected, each active (running) module checks
the text of the entry, according to the module's settings.
For example, you can set a module to check an entry when it's
selected, searching for the string <CHARNAME> and for
the word Sarevok. If there are any matches, the module informs
the user (via TREP) about this fact, providing additional
information/explanation if needed. For a more practical example,
there are tokens (such as <CHARNAME> or <DAY>)
that are present in the Spanish version of Baldur's Gate 2
as well. Other tokens (of the English/International version)
must be translated to "usual" text because they
don't exist in the Spanish dialog.tlk and dialogf.tlk (such
as <BROTHERSISTER>, <HIMHER>). With a properly
made module, Spanish translators can be informed when the
currently selected entry contains such a token. The message
can also include instructions and other helpful information
about the detected token. (Such a Spanish and German module
already exists. If you're interested, please see the list
of available modules on the download
section.)
You can create modules with the TREP Module
Editor, located in the "Modules" folder of TREP.
You can read much more about modules and their creation in
TREP's User Manual.
If you've created a module that might be
useful to other users as well, you can publish it on the download
section of this page. In this case, please send an to TREP's author with the following content: attached module
file, module's description (in your language if it's for non-English
users) and your username (to be mentioned on this page).
Languages
TREP's text resources are stored in a standard
TRA file, in the folder "Languages". You can translate
this file in TREP in the Translator Mode. Detailed instructions
can be found in TREP's User Manual, see part 7.2.
Existing translations available for download
can be found in the download section
below. Files marked with an asterisk (*) are also included
in the current release of TREP.
